40 Fantastic Ways to Use Baking Soda

As a ministry that is purposed to support you as you journey through SAHM-hood, I want to begin posting ideas, tips and tricks that may help you with your journey as well as help you make the most out of being a SAHM. So, here is my first attempt. I was reading Facebook and this link popped up from Yahoo Green. Baking Soda apparently can do more than just deodarize! I hope this article is helpful!!

Most of us know that baking soda can be used for more than just making homemade cookies and other dough rise. It's not uncommon to see an open box of this leavening agent deodorizing refrigerators, for example. But did you know that there are at least 40 different ways to use baking soda?   Click here to view the list.

Playin' at the Park!

Hello Mommas!
I am thinking of putting together a park rotation. What is a park rotation, you ask? Well, a park ration is when we put a list of child friendly parks together in our area (Pennsauken, Cherry Hill, Willingboro, Mt. laurel, ect.) and we have a play date every other Saturday morning at one of the parks. What do you think? Yes? No? Let me know! And if you want to do it, feel free to give us the name and location of a good park that you know of!

Eating Healthy: Get Rid of the Processed Foods!

Hey Mom's! So, I have been on a misson to make my 2 year old eat vegetables and get rid of processed foods, only because the cost is crazy and half of the things on the box...um, don't know what ingredient that is!!! Know what I'm saying? So, I will try to keep you guys informed.

I was watching Oprah today and she had Jamie Oliver, Food Revolution on ABC! The best! I am learning so much from his show. He says that God created food to help our bodies, but man made food to make life easy. Well, I guess, but your body is the Temple of the Lord and you have to watch what you eat or your body will simply shut down. With that being said, I will be posting the best recipes that I have tried with my kids to help you out. Easy and simply tasty! Chicken nuggets, for example - is it really chicken in there? I'm just saying! And processed pancakes...ew! So, below is one recipe. Enjoy! Please give me your feedback by posting here and let me know if it works for you!

Oatmeal Pancakes Harlem Chef Lindsey Williams (grandson of Sylvia Woods)

(Oh yeah, my daughter doesn't even know it's oatmeal and fiber!)

4-6 pancakes (6 pancakes if you make them small)

  • 1 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of uncooked oats
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt(optional)
  • 1 1/4 cups of fat free milk or whole milk
  • 1 lightly beaten egg
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
I add my own cinnamon and vanilla - it's your choice.

Directions:
In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, baking powder and salt. Mix well. In a medium bowl combine milk, egg and oil. Blend well. Add milk mixture to dry ingredients all at once. Stir just until dry ingredients are moistened. Do not over mix. Lightly grease skillet with cooking spray or oil. Cook and refrigerate any leftovers.

Help is Not a 4 Letter Word - An excerpt from Mommy Maestro

When I was a SAHM, I started a blog that expressed my experiences. Here is a post I made that I thought would be helpful to you! Enjoy!

It's 9 am. I have already helped my husband prepare for his trip by finding documents and files that were hiding from him. I have changed Summerlyn's diaper and helped Samaya on the potty. I got a banana for the crew since no one has had breakfast yet. I have ironed the girls' clothes and helped them put them on. I have created a spreadsheet of profit and loss for the business. And now I am cleaning the bathtub so my husband can take a shower with out being grossed out. (It's amazing how dirty two little girls can get!)

In my moment of solitude (since no one wants to help me clean the tub) I asked the Lord "What would you have me to write on the blog?" He said to me: Help is not a four letter word.

Wow! How well our God knows us! Many times as we do what we, Mommy Maestros, are charged to do, it could feel like a curse. But God is letting us know that it's not. It is a blessing to help and serve others. I know, I know, it may not feel that way sometimes. Especially when it seems that everyone in your home can do nothing for themselves and they recruit you to help them. But that's what Mommy Maestros do. When we were formed by God, we were formed as a help meet - a help to God and to our family.

What are the rewards of being a help meet? I don't think we will truly know until we are standing before the throne of God. But here in the earth, there are little rewards. The smile you receive from your toddler as you fix his favorite toy. The kiss and hug you get from your husband as you hand him his dinner plate. The little voice of your 4 year old that says "Thank you, mommy!" when you help her put on her shoes when she just couldn't seem to do it herself.

The smiles, hugs and thank you's may not compare to what God has in store for us in heaven as we lay down our "life" for our family and help them. But they are nice tokens to hold on to when the days of being a maestro are hard and long. Keep them close to your heart and let them encourage you.

And remember, even if your child doesn't say thank you, or if no one notices that you've cleaned the toilet, God always does!
